TIRANA ARRIVAL & CITYTOUR (D)

Welcome in Tirana! Start your tour directly with a guided tour and learn more about the important city. Visit the Mosaic of Tirana – the oldest monument of the city, which belongs to a house of the III century AD. After a short coffee break, continue with a visit of the Historic National Museum, Et`hem Bey Mosque and the Clock Tower. In the afternoon, visit the Bunk’Art video-museum exhibition, which takes place inside the nuclear bunker of Enver Hoxha. This structure was built between 1972 and 1978, and is designed and set up to accommodate the entire command line of the government in case of a chemical or nuclear attack against the Albanian capital. The Bunk’Art exhibition contains video installations, sounds, lights, images, objects and digital equipment to recreate a historical journey of emotional content which represents the case of a reflection and recognition of national history even for the youngest.

TIRANA: KRUJA (B)

Kruja lies on a panoramic mountain and has a very ancient history. It was once the capital of Albanopolis inhabited by the Illyrian tribes of Albans, and also the capital of the principality of Arber,  where the history of Skanderbeg began. It is rich in monuments of culture and ethnography. The castle of Kruja is situated on a hill and the views from there are magnificent. The most important remains of the castle are the Clock Tower, the Church of Saint Andrew, Fatih mosque, the medieval baths, the dervish lodge of Dollma and medieval houses. Inside of the castle ruins, there are two important museums, which you are going to visit: the Museum of the National Hero and the ethnographic Museum. After a walk through the traditional handicrafts market built about 400 years ago, visit a workshop where you have the opportunity to witness how wool is processed in a very traditional way into clothes and hats.

TIRANA – DURRËS DEPARTURE (B, L)

After breakfast transfer to Durrës. The city, founded in 627 BC, has much to tell of its colourful story, beautiful beaches and attractions. The tour begins with the guided visit of the ruins of the market complex (macellum) of the Late Roman and Early Byzantine eras. The circular area within a colonnade at the centre represented a space intended for more formal activities and was most likely a Forum comparable with the Curved Forum at Constantinople. Then, visit the Roman Amphitheatre, one of the greatest monuments of antiquity in Albania. It was built in the first decades of the 2nd century, probably during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Unlike other amphitheatres of that time, it is built partly into an existing hill, and partly on level ground. It overlooks the main part of town. After lunch in one of the restaurants along the sea promenade, transfer to Tirana for your departure.
