YANGON: KYAIKTHALE VILLAGE (L)
Transfer to Nanthida Jetty and take the ferry boat and cross Yangon River to the next bank, called Dala. One can enjoy, the river life and observe of ways of life of local people during this short cruise. Continue then to Kyaikthale village. On arrival, you will receive a warm welcome at the community lodge. A talk will then be provided by the community leader to explain more about the village and the people that support this project currently. Afterwards, pay a visit to the villager’s homes to learn about the local industry including bamboo basket weaving and sewing. Following this, you will explore the fields of the local farming community to learn about the creation of natural fertilizer, the cultivation of crops and poultry farming. This will be followed by lunch. In the afternoon, stop by at the Mingalar monastic school and greet the children during their recess. Conclude the day with a visit to Twante’s pottery kiln site before you drive back to Dala. Upon arrival Dala, stop at the Recycle Workshop of ChuChu where one can learn the process of plastic fusion. After cleaning, plastic bags are cut in various shapes. Different layers of plastic are then fused by heat together, forming one multicolour sheet. Chu Chu is a Yangon handicraft group dedicated to recycling. It is supported by the “Solid Waste Management (SWM2) project implemented by Cesvi, the City of Torino and the Yangon Municipality, and funded by the European Union and the Italian Cooperation. Finally, take the ferry boat back to Yangon and enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Yangon River.
