QUITO'S UNESCO'S HISTORIC CENTRE DISCOVERY & CAPILLA DEL HOMBRE (B, D)
Your guide will take you for a walk to visit the colonial churches and monasteries of this urban jewel, nominates as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, starting at the Independence Square, flanked by the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral where you could go up to the copulas and enjoy a magnificent view of the centre. Get amazed by the stone façade and the interior of La Compañía, Jesuit church. Continue then to the house of Oswaldo Guayasamin. The Capilla del Hombre is a magnus opus idealized in life by master painter Oswaldo Guayasamín himself and completed several years after his death, showcases the struggles endured by the native cultures of Spanish America through history. Huge paintings, and a magnificent installation piece with the backdrop of a fabulous view over Mount Pichincha. To end this cultural day tour, you have a dinner at a restaurant located inside a historic monument. The location is not the only great thing about this restaurant but its gourmet “patrimonial” menu that is trying to rescue ancient recipes, plates and ingredients of the Ecuadorian gastronomy.

QUITO: INDIGENOUS HANDCRAFT MARKET; COLONIAL HACIENDA & ROSE PLANTATION/MIDDLE OF THE WORLD (B, L)
In the beautiful and colourful market of Otavalo, you can find several kinds of goods such as: weavings, woven rugs, alpaca sweaters, shirts, wall hangings, bags, paintings, clay figurines, silver jewellery and many others even agricultural goods. Many of the merchants belong to the Otavalo community and still wear their traditional clothes. Traditional lunch is served in a local house while you learn more about the culture of the indigenous people of the Otavalo region. Continue then with a visit of an ancient Jesuit Hacienda built around the time of the Spanish colonization. You are welcomed at the main salon where you can taste some typical hors d-oeuvres before you visit the rose’s show room. Ecuador is well known to has one of the most beautiful roses of the world. Before returning to Quito, stop at Quitsato Solar Clock which is the first and only Monument of the Middle of the world that is exactly on the Equatorial Line or Zero Parallel.
